England expect Harry Kane to be fit for World Cup clash with USA following scan on ankle knock

England expect Harry Kane to be fit for the World Cup clash with USA on Friday.

The Three Lions skipper had a precautionary scan on an ankle knock he picked up in the 6-2 victory over Iran on Monday.

The injury was caused by Morteza Pouraliganji following a challenge in the 48th minute, although he did carry on until the 75th minute.

The 29-year-old was then seen with strapping on his ankle and was walking gingerly following the match.

This sparked fears of yet another ankle problem, something that has plagued the Spurs throughout his career.

Kane went for a scan on Wednesday, but there is confidence within the England camp that he will be able to play for their second group game with USA on Friday.

Three Lions goalkeeper Jordan Pickford also gave a positive assessment of Kane’s possible injury, suggesting they were not overly worried about it.

“I think he is good, probably just a little bit sore,” the Three Lions goalkeeper said.

“I’m sure he is fine, he was out on the grass with us today which is good. He is our captain.”

The Spurs striker had a recovery session indoors on Tuesday, as did the rest of the England squad who featured against Iran on Monday.

The development is a boost for England, whose manager Gareth Southgate had downplayed concerns over the issue immediately after the Iran game.

“I think Harry’s fine,” the manager said of the 2018 Golden Boot winner.

“I mean, it obviously looked a bad tackle but he carried on in the game and we took him off, really, because we felt it was a moment we could do that.”

Harry Maguire is also expected to be fine to feature against USA, having felt ill during the win over Iran.
