Raiders eyeing Blaine Gabbert after Jimmy Garoppolo contract

The Las Vegas Raiders have found their quarterback in Jimmy Garoppolo. However, the Raiders don’t seem to be done adding at QB as they have shown interest in Tom Brady’s former backup on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The Raiders hosted Blaine Gabbert for a visit, via Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2. Alongside Gabbert, Las Vegas also brought in linebacker Andrew Van Ginkel for a visit.

After bouncing around the NFL, Gabbert joined the Buccaneers in 2020. That was the same year that Brady signed with Tampa Bay. Because of Brady’s arrival, Gabbert only appeared in 11 games with the Buccaneers. Still, he came away with a Super Bowl ring and got to work alongside arguably the greatest quarterback of all time.

As the Raiders look to build out their quarterback room, Las Vegas might value Gabbert’s experience learning from Brady. He shares that in common with Garoppolo, who played under Brady with the New England Patriots.

Regardless of the Brady connection, Las Vegas is in need of a backup quarterback. Jarrett Stidham signed a two-year, $10 million contract with the Denver Broncos. Outside of Jimmy Garoppolo, the Raiders only have Chase Garbers. A backup QB with experience is necessary.

Blaine Gabbert provides that in spades. He has been in the NFL since 2011, has spent time with numerous franchises and has appeared in 67 total games. Overall, Gabbert has thrown for 9,302 yards, 51 touchdowns and 47 interceptions.

After backing up Tom Brady the past three years, Las Vegas seems interested in Gabbert filling that same role with the Raiders. The Raiders will evaluate Gabbert during his visit and determine if he is the right man for the job.
